AOTrauma membership information 

1. What is the "AOTrauma membership network"?

The "AOTrauma membership network" is essentially a community of trauma professionals who share a passion to improve patient care within their region and across the globe. Surgeons, researchers and operating room personnel have the opportunity to connect and exchange knowledge and can easily access an extensive range of educational material relevant to their daily practice. In addition, the AOTrauma membership offers career opportunities by way of fellowships, faculty and officer roles within the organization.

2. How can I join the AOTrauma community?

AOTrauma offers you two possible ways to join the global network of trauma and orthopedic professionals:

  • Join as Registered User
    If you do not fulfill the prerequisites, AOTrauma offers you the opportunity to sign up for free as a registered user. Registered users have access to AOTrauma updates on news, innovative e-learning tools such as AO Surgery Reference, AOTrauma STaRT, a variety of free webinars and webcasts, and other selected educational content.
  • Apply for AOTrauma membership
    AOTrauma membership gives you access to the great variety of member-exclusive privileges listed below. One can select from a Member or Member Plus package.

3. What are the prerequisites to become an AOTrauma Member?

The AOTrauma membership is exclusive to musculoskeletal trauma professionals who have already participated in, and who clearly demonstrate the understanding of AO principles and philosophy. To apply for AOTrauma membership, you must fulfill the following prerequisites:

  • Must be a musculoskeletal trauma professional
  • MD/DO must have attended an AOTrauma Principles course
  • ORP/Nurses must have attended an AOTrauma course for ORP
  • Researchers must be involved in musculoskeletal related research activity

5. Do I receive the AOTrauma membership card and certificate?

Every AOTrauma member will receive a welcome letter containing a personal member card and certificate. The member card identifies you as an AOTrauma member. Show your card at courses or congresses, and benefit from special member discounts and access member-exclusive events. Please note the member card doesn't include an expiration date and a valid AOTrauma membership is needed to enjoy the full benefit.

6. What can I do when I didn't receive my AOTrauma member card and certificate?

Membership packages are produced automatically by end of every second month. In case the package did not reach you or if you lost your card or certificate, please initially make sure your shipping address within your AOTrauma profile is valid and updated, as such address is used for the package shipment. Afterwards please send us an email to: membership@aotrauma.org requesting a new package.

7. I forgot my login information

  • Password: If you have forgotten your AOTrauma profile password, you can simply use the "Forgot your password" button when logging in. A newly generated temporary password will be sent to your email address immediately.
  • Username: To retrieve your username you can also use the "Forgot your password" button, as the username is then automatically re-sent to your email address. Another option is to directly contact the AOTrauma membership team, who will be able to provide you with your details.

9. Is there a membership fee discount for AOTrauma residents?

Please note AOTrauma doesn’t offer special fee reductions for residents.

10. How can I pay the membership fee?

AOTrauma offers its members a variety of payment options:

  • Online credit card payment
    Log into your AOTrauma profile, select to upgrade/renew your AOTrauma membership and be directed through a simple payment guide.
  • Bank transfer
    Once your membership fee is received, your membership will be upgraded or renewed. Download the AOTrauma payment form on our website.
  • Let us process your credit card for you
    Download the payment form on our website, fill in your credit card details and send it to us.

11. Am I notified about my membership before expiry?

Yes, AOTrauma uses regular email notifications to inform its members about membership expiration. This gives you enough time to renew your membership with AOTrauma and maintain continuous access to the member-exclusive privileges.

12. Where can I obtain my membership payment receipt?

After logging into your AOTrauma profile, you can easily download the payment receipt if your membership was paid using the online credit card option. Go to "Your account" and scroll down to the Membership section, where the payment receipts are stored.

13. How can I upgrade/renew my AOTrauma membership?

After logging into your AOTrauma profile, you can easily upgrade or renew your membership by going to "Your account" and scrolling down to the membership section. Further you have to select Select from the possible payment options:

  • If you choose the online credit card payment option you will be directed through a simple payment guide, asking you to pick the preferred length of membership, the currency and finally enter your credit card details to process the payment. Your AOTrauma membership will then be immediately upgraded/renewed.
  • If you choose the "Offline Payment" an offline payment form and an invoice will be generated and sent to your email address. This gives you the possibility to either pay your membership fee using a bank transfer or send our membership team your credit card details to be processed for you.

14. What happens when my membership expires?

If your membership expires, you will automatically become a Registered User, having limited access to the benefits, but still being a part of the AOTrauma community. You will be notified by email about the recent expiration and the possibility to renew your membership.

15. How can I update information in my profile?

In case you like to update any AOTrauma profile details (Usernames are not changeable) log into your AOTrauma profile at www.aotrauma.org and click "Complete your profile" under the Profile section. Choose the details you would like to change and press the "Edit" button. Update the information and press "save changes".

16. How can I change my profile picture?

Log into your AOTrauma profile at www.aotrauma.org and click "Complete your profile" under the Profile section. Press "Edit" next to Public Identity and click "Choose a picture". Browse your device to select the picture of preference, upload it and save it by clicking "OK" and "Save changes". 

17. Can I be registered with or a member of not only AOTrauma but of other AO's clinical divisions?

Yes, you can register or become a member of more than one AO clinical division, using only one AO profile.

Anytime you want to register for an AOSpine course or manage AOSpine-related activities, you have to change your home clinical division by clicking on the house symbol, under the "Membership" section, as shown in the image.

If you are interested in becoming a member of more clinical divisions, each membership has to be paid individually as they bring you a different set of member-exclusive benefits.

18. What is an AOTrauma voucher code?

AOTrauma offers its sponsors, industrial partners and other stakeholders an alternative way of paying membership fees for a greater number of orthopedic surgeons or nurses by issuing non-personalized voucher codes for further distribution.
