30 November 2018

In 2008, the AO Foundation Board of Directors created AO Trauma as a dedicated clinical division to ensure a constant focus on relevant trauma-related clinical problems. In 2018, AO Trauma celebrates its tenth anniversary as a clinical division of the AO Foundation.
In many ways AO Trauma has always been the main pillar of the AO Foundation and vice versa. It is difficult to separate one from the other.
In 2008, the AO Foundation Board of Directors created AO Trauma as a dedicated clinical division to ensure a constant focus on relevant trauma-related clinical problems.
AOTrauma, through its global network and governance structure, continues to identify clinically relevant problems and aims to develop solutions for the patient by connecting translational research, clinical research, product and procedure development, quality assurance, and surgeon education.
Today, AO Trauma is a global community of best-in-class trauma and orthopedic surgeons, researchers, and operating room personnel. It continues to focus on its strengths: education, research, and community building.
Today AO Trauma is not only focused on bone healing, but also important adjacent clinical topics, such as bone infection, patient outcome, or orthogeriatric trauma care. In addition, AO Trauma has established important strategic initiatives to develop innovative approaches to surgeon education and improve patient safety.
