Research chairperson for AO Trauma Europe and Southern Africa elected
The country councils of AOTrauma Europe and Southern Africa have voted and elected Professor Giannoudis as research chairperson for the region

The country councils of AO Trauma Europe and Southern Africa have elected Professor Peter Giannoudis as research chairperson for the region. His term will run from July 2020 to June 2023.
He currently serves as professor of trauma surgery at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, United Kingdom. He holds the chair and section head position at the Academic Department of Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery and is responsible for all the department's activities including clinical work, research, teaching, and education.
The institute is an official AO Trauma Fellowship training center and has welcomed AO fellows for many years.
As a long-standing member of the AO Trauma community, Giannoudis has made a significant contribution to AO Trauma activities. He completed an AO Trauma Fellowship at the Hannover Medical Centre, Hannover, Germany, with Prof Christian Krettek, Prof Pape, and Prof Tim Pohlemann.
Giannoudis participates in many courses as a faculty member and is well-known in the global trauma community due to his numerous publications.
The election process was developed in line with the criteria and requirements of the AO Trauma Template of Governance, and the Nomination Committee approved the election result. Consequently, Giannoudis will be eligible to run again after this period for an additional term.
