The country councils of AO Trauma Europe and Southern Africa (AO TESA) have elected Nir Cohen to serve as the new Community Development chairperson for the region. His term will run from July 2021 to June 2024.
Cohen currently serves as the head of the adult reconstruction unit at the Rabin Medical Center, in Petah Tikva, Israel. The Rabin Medical Center is one of the largest tertiary medical centers in the country and, as an official AO Trauma Fellowship training center, has welcomed AO fellows for many years.
Cohen is a committed regional fellowship coordinator and a long-standing member of the AO Trauma community. He has been a member of the AO TESA Education Committee since 2019 due to his role as AO TESA MID chairperson. He completed an AO Trauma Fellowship at Metro Health Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio, United States, under the supervision of Dr Brendan Patterson, working with John Wilber and Roger Wilber. He then completed a second fellowship, this time in adult reconstruction with Prof Victor Goldberg at University Hospitals, also in Cleveland.
Cohen has been actively involved in numerous courses as a frequent chairperson and valued faculty member and is well-known in the global trauma community.
The election process was conducted in line with the criteria and requirements of the AO Trauma Terms of Reference, and the Nomination Committee approved the election result. Consequently, Cohen will be eligible to run again after this period for an additional term.
AO Trauma wishes him every success in his new role.
