AO Trauma announces the results of the International Board chair election

Michael Baumgaertner elected as chair-elect of the AO Trauma International Board

AO Trauma is very pleased to announce the 2019 election results for the position of AO Trauma International Board chairperson. The election process was monitored and approved by the AO Trauma Nomination Committee according to the terms of reference and has been confirmed by the AO Foundation Board.

AO Trauma International Board (AOTIB)

Michael Baumgaertner (US) has been elected as new AOTIB chair-elect. His terms of office will be as follows:

  • Start of term as AOTIB chair-elect after the AO Foundation Trustees Meeting 2019
  • Start of term as AOTIB chair after the AO Foundation Trustees Meeting 2020 (three-year term, non-renewable, one-year past chair)

Michael Baumgaertner is professor and chief of orthopedic trauma at the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.

Throughout his career, he has been very actively involved in AO Foundation and AO Trauma activities. He served as elected AO trustee from 2005–2009 and has been an ex-officio AO trustee since 2011. Michael Baumgaertner was member of the AOTIB from 2011–2014 in his role as AO Trauma North America chair. From 2011–2015, he was AO North America (AONA) president. Since 2015, he has chaired the AONA Board of Directors as well as the AO Education Institute Advisory Committee. In 2017, Michael Baumgaertner was appointed as AO Surgery Reference executive editor.

AO Trauma is delighted to welcome Michael Baumgaertner in this important and prestigious position. The AOTIB and the AO Trauma team wish him a great start as AOTIB chair-elect and a very successful term as AOTIB chair, starting in 2020.
